“There was fine work from Pippa Goss's bustling Dew Fairy.”
Dew Fairy - Hansel and Gretel - Opera Holland Park - Whatsonstage“Pippa Goss as Papagena, transformed to a 1950’s pin-up, seized every chance to charm.”
Papagena, The Magic Flute, Opera Holland Park - Opera Magazine“But in many ways the star of the show, bizarrely, was Pippa Goss’s Flora. [She] was a perfect solution: probably in her mid-20s but passable as 14 with no suggestion of the grotesque and a fine, clear voice.”
Flora, The Turn of the Screw, Opera Project - Opera Now Magazine“Pippa Goss was a tour de force as the insecure adolescent daughter Flora”.
Flora, The Knot Garden - Montepulciano Festival - Opera Now Magazine“Pippa Goss deserves a special mention for an enchanting Barbarina – she’d make a fine Susanna”.
Barbarina, The Marriage of Figaro, Threestone Opera - Opera Magazine“There was Pippa Goss, her silverpoint soprano conjuring the Gentle Spirits of the Air. “
The Fairy Queen, Snape Maltings - The Times“Pippa Goss's Zerlina projected beguiling tonal purity…'Batti Batti' showed resilient, stunning beauty of tone.”
Zerlina, Don Giovanni, Opera Project - Music & VisionWith her high soprano register and light tone, Pippa Goss is equally at home on the opera stage as she is on the concert platform. Highly experienced in and familiar with the Baroque and Classical canon, she is often performing Bach, Handel and Mozart. However, Pippa is also excited about singing contemporary and new music, and relishes the chance to explore new parts.
After graduating from the University of Bristol with Joint Honours in Music and French, Pippa went on to study at the Royal Academy of Music and at the Britten Pears School, Aldeburgh. She was the First Prize winner in the Thelma King Singing Competition. Pippa is fluent in French and comfortable singing in several languages.
Pippa’s operatic engagements have included Susanna and Barbarina The Marriage of Figaro for Mid-Wales Opera; Dew Fairy and cover of Gretel, Hansel and Gretel and Papagena The Magic Flute, directed by Simon Callow, for Opera Holland Park; Gretel Hansel and Gretel for the Julita Festivale in Sweden; Emmie Albert Herring at the Snape Maltings; Flora The Knot Garden at the Montepulciano Festival; Zerlina Don Giovanni for Longborough Festival Opera; Norina Don Pasquale, Papagena The Magic Flute and Flora The Turn of the Screw, all for Opera Project.
Pippa makes regular appearances with choral societies and leading ensembles and has sung in many of the finest concert halls and cathedrals both in the UK and abroad. Concert highlights include A Christmas Celebration at Cadogan Hall (Royal Philharmonic Orchestra) Handel’s Dixit Dominus at St John’s Smith Square (English Baroque Choir); Bach Cantatas 105 and 182 at the Aldeburgh Proms; Orff’s Carmina Burana at Guildford Cathedral; Mozart Great Mass in C minor at St Alban’s Cathedral; Charpentier’s Leçons de ténèbres at the London Handel Festival directed by Laurence Cummings; Handel’s Gloria at the Chelsea Festival (London Handel Players); Purcell The Fairy Queen at the Aldeburgh Festival conducted by Harry Bicket; a recital at the St David’s Hall, Cardiff and a Young Artist Series recital at the Cheltenham Music Festival. She has most recently sung the role of Iphis in Handel’s Jephtha for the Hull Bach Choir.
Pippa has also sung with celebrated choirs and consorts, namely, the Monteverdi Choir and Academy of Ancient Music, appearing at the BBC Proms with the former. She also sings with Musica Saecolorum, a consort based on the continent and has performed in Italy, Germany and France with them.
Pippa has recorded Cantata 80 and the Coffee Cantata for BBC Radio 3 and commercial recordings of Michael Hurd’s The Widow of Ephesus for the Dutton label and Hurd’s The Aspern Papers for Lyrita.
