Louise Wayman’s creamy-voiced arias were her speciality, exploring the facets of each phrase with ease.
Katy Wright, Backtrack.comBut it was Louise Wayman who was the real star. Her one movement contribution to the Requiem was an utter show stealer.
Elmley de la Cour, Birmingham PostLouise Wayman studied at Birmingham Conservatoire with Christine Cairns, graduating first in her year and winning prizes for English Song, Oratorio, Opera, Lieder, Recitals and Academic Achievement. She then went on to postgraduate study at the Wales International Academy of Voice under Dennis O’Neill and Nuccia Focile, where she was supported by the Dennis O’Neill Foundation. She has taken part in masterclasses with Sarah Walker, Kiri Te Kanawa, Nelly Miricioiu, Della Jones, Ryland Davies, Susan Bullock, Rosemary Joshua and Yvonne Kenny.
After graduation she worked with many chamber and choral ensembles including Polyphony, the BBC Singers, the Gabrieli Consort, Ex Cathedra and Collegium Vocale Gent. She was a member of the select Collegium Vocale vocal ensemble for Toneelhuis’s 2011 theatre production Bloed en Rozen at the Avignon Festival and later went on to work as a soloist with actor Johan Leysen in his production Trauerzeit, both of which featured newly composed music by Belgian composer Dominique Pauwels. She also joined Collegium Vocal Gent for the theatre production Escorial with music by George van Dam and Orlando di Lassus.
On the concert platform Louise has sung many of the most popular soprano oratorio roles, including Mozart C Minor Mass, Bach St John and St Matthew Passions, Haydn Nelson Mass, Poulenc Gloria, Beethoven’s 9th Symphony and Vaughan Williams’ Sea Symphony. She is also comfortable with new music, recently giving the London premiere of Rick Birley’s Advent Carol Succession. Personal favourite projects have included Bach’s St Matthew Passion with 9 singers for both chorus and solos, Messiah in Mühlhausen and Bach’s Jauchzet Gott in King’s Place, London. She is also in demand for recitals, appearing for Leeds Lieder, Ripon Cathedral and Northern Opera in recent years.
Louise has taken on many opera roles including Papagena Magic Flute, (Birmingham Conservatoire), Giannetta The Elixir of Love, (Midland Opera), Zerlina Don Giovanni, (Moon Little Opera), Una Conversa Suor Angelica, (Manchester Opera Project), Maguelonne Cinderella- Viardot, (Northern Opera Group, video production), Una Donna Risurrezione- Alfano, (Wexford Festival Opera), Scyllar/Narrator/Telemachus/Calypso Troy Story– Nisbet, (Talking Birds, education project), Melpomeme Ant & Cleo– Nisbet, (Talking Birds, education project), Belinda Dido and Aeneas, (Operamus) and Soprano Solo 3 Mittwoch aus Licht, (Birmingham Opera). She has joined the choruses of Wexford Festival Opera and Opera North for both stage and concert productions.
Louise has appeared as a soloist on many recordings with ensembles such as the Royal Shakespeare Company, the Blenheim Singers and as a featured artist on the Musical and Amicable Society’s disc Odes, Songs, Sonatas &c.
